Want to help your community and the environment?! Become a volunteer with the Department of Waste Resources.
Attend this class to learn the details of waste reduction, recycling, and proper disposal of waste through opportunities for source reduction, composting, and other department programs available in Riverside County. You'll also learn about the various opportunities available to volunteers. Volunteers are needed for sharing program information at community events, assisting at outreach presentations, working hands-on with small groups, and making presentations at outreach classes.
To become an Outreach Volunteer:
This class teaches residents about vermicomposting, a composting method where worms convert food scraps into two of the best amendments on earth: worm castings, a fancy name for worm poop; and worm tea, a liquid fertilizer derived from either castings or the leachate collected from a worm bin. Residents learn how to care for the worms, make bedding, and harvest a worm bin.
Following the Vermicomposting class, there is a hands-on workshop where attendees make their own worm bins to take home (10:00 am to 1:00 pm).
