Riverside County Supervisor Jeff Stone will ask the Board of Supervisors Tuesday to oppose a statewide initiative that would reduce most non-violent crimes from felonies to misdemeanors, and allow re-sentencing for thousands of convicted felons in state prison.
A heat warning is being issued across Riverside County as temperatures are expected to climb to well into the triple digits on Thursday and Friday (July 24-25). Cool centers in the affected areas will be open to provide relief to residents.
Anyone interested in running for offices on the Nov. 4 general election ballot may take out candidate filing papers beginning Monday (July 14). Papers must be filed by 5 p.m. on Aug. 8. If an incumbent fails to file, the deadline for that office will be extended to 5 p.m. on Aug. 13, for everyone except the incumbent.
The Riverside County Economic Development Agency (EDA) has received an approved award for the California Energy Commission’s Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Grant (PON-13-606). The grant award is $497,357 over the 3-year period of performance. This was a state-wide, competitive grant, and EDA scored in the top 5 of 39 applicants and had the highest score of all Southern California applicants.
The County of Riverside has completed its first ever “Hackathon.” A Hackathon is a short contest in which programmers develop and design applications to make better use of public data. The event, known as “RivCodes,” took place on June 28 and 29 at the Riverside County Innovation Center.
